Newbald’s Musical Jubilee Picnic Party
This will be Newbald’s main platinum jubilee celebration. We are laying on various things to make the afternoon fun and enjoyable. We hope that you will come down and enjoy this special day. With memories of Newbald’s remarkable and historical diamond jubilee celebrations of 2012 in mind, let’s make this day another one to remember. We would like to say thank you to all the people and organisations who are helping us with this. These include NYPP, the WI, the Church, the Village Hall, FONS and members of NPFA.
Music from Mambo Jambo
Mambo Jambo will join us from 3pm to 5pm. This truly unique two-piece will be performing their lively, joyous mash up of roots, world, folk and jazz, plus their own compositions.
With Frankie on sax, vocals, clarinet, flute, guitar and percussion and Pete on guitar, vocal, ukulele, tres (traditional Cuban guitar), banjo, accordion and between them all kinds of percussion including suitcase and spoons!
Pete and Frankie have been gathering admirers at shows and festivals the length and breadth of the country. A fabulous uplifting musical treat is in store wherever they roll up. Find out more about them on their website.
Bring your own picnics, wear red/white/blue, play games and take photos!
We encourage you to bring your own food, drinks and picnic blankets (or chairs) to sit on. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available to purchase outside the Church Rooms, but no savoury food. Of course, the pubs will have their usual food and drink options and they may choose to increase their level of service to meet the extra demand. We are currently not sure whether the Tiger will be open but will confirm nearer the time.
We will be providing traditional garden games for entertainment, such as hop scotch, hula hooping, large draughts boards etc. (If you have any outdoor games you can lend us, we would be grateful to know about it. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org).
Just for fun, why not not wear red, white and blue or even dress up on a royal theme? There will be opportunities to take photos with a Platinum Jubilee backdrop created by children at Newbald school.
Please share with us photos of the event using the #newbaldplatinumjubilee and @newbaldvillage on Twitter or email to email@example.com. Please only share photos with us that you are happy for us to use on our website, social media and printed material. We will be creating a commemorative webpage after the event.
Royal Scarecrow Competition
We are holding a competition for the best scarecrow dressed up on a royal theme. Your scarecrow could be based on a current or historical royal character. There will be a prize. (Obviously the image opposite is of a normal scarecrow, which we do not want, but we don’t want to breach copyright by using an image of a royal one created by someone else!)
Please let your imagination run riot and your creative juices flow.
We would like to encourage you to display your scarecrow at the front of your house ahead of the event, so that during the platinum jubilee weekend, there will be many royal scarecrows to view around the village. If you could have your scarecrow on display by Thursday 2nd June, that would be great.
In order to enter your scarecrow into the competition, you will need to bring it down to the village green before the start of the Musical Jubilee Picnic Party. We would like to have all scarecrows there by 2pm. Someone will be there from 1pm to guide you where to put your scarecrow. Judging will take place during the event. Please ensure that you have put a label on the scarecrow with your contact details so we know how to contact you.
All scarecrow owners will need to make sure that they take their scarecrows away at the end of the event.
Newbald’s Platinum Jubilee Pudding Competition
Newbald is holding its very own Platinum Jubilee Pudding competition. Could you impress the judges with an original pudding?
There will be 3 different categories and a winner in each one.
1) Children in Year 6 and under
2) Children in Years 7-11
3) Young people Year 12+ and adults
Further details about the pudding competition and how to enter are available to view here.
