9.30pm for lighting at 9.45pm prompt

Lighting of Beacon

Newbald will be lighting a platinum jubilee beacon on the village green as part of the official commemorative national network.

In line with the rest of the country, the beacon will be lit at 9.45pm on Thursday 2nd June. To keep the scale of this event at a manageable level, Newbald has chosen not to engage in any of the traditional pomp and ceremony (such as choirs, buglers, town criers etc.), which may be present at other beacon lighting events. We feel the fire itself will be an enjoyable and impressive spectacle in the centre of the village.

Please come down to the green for 9.30pm in time to view the lighting. We have asked the fish and chip van to stay on the green later than normal.

A big thank you to East Riding of Yorkshire Council Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Community Fund who awarded Newbald Parish Council a grant of £500 to cover most of the costs associated with the beacon.
